Meranti Shorea

This species has not been generally imported as flooring.

However is available in small quantities as 19 mm tongue and groove.

Also known as :

Origin : Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. As with mahogany, meranti is sold as ‘dark’ and ‘light’. In both cases other names can be “ seraya” or “lauan”.

Colour : Both exhibit similar heartwood colour of light red to brown, with sapwood distinctly lighter being pink to grey.

Hardness : 3.1
