Marri Eucalyptus calophylla

This species carries large amounts of gum and can be difficult to source in select. Usually sold as standard and better.

Because of the amount of gum in marri, low recovery rates to 1st grade timber meant that very few timber millers would produce it on a regular basis. As trends changed and ‘feature’ in wood became popular, more of this species is available, both for flooring and recently hand crafted into fine furniture.

Also known as : Red gum

Origin : Is found amongst both the jarrah and karri forests in the south west of Western Australia.

Colour : Yellow to light brown near heart, with sapwood tending to white. The dark red gum contrasts well with the overall yellowish brown of the wood.

Hardness : 7.1
